Paper Work – an origami exhibition by Chico Tamoko Kotani on Strynø – DK (2015)

“Paper Work” is an exhibition holded in the gallery Tegn on the little island of Strynø in Denmark in April 2015.

The artist Chico Tamoko Kotani used a play of words “Paper Work” so as to talk about her origami´s work.

She included inside her work the Thousand Origami Cranes (千羽鶴 Senbazuru^?) is a group of one thousand origami paper cranes (折鶴 orizuru^?) held together by strings. An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. Some stories believe you are granted eternal good luck, instead of just one wish, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. This makes them popular gifts for special friends and family. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise) and is said to live for a thousand years: That is why 1000 cranes are made, one for each year. In some stories it is believed that the 1000 cranes must be completed within one year and they must all be made by the person who is to make the wish at the end. Cranes that are made by that person and given away to another aren’t included: All cranes must be kept by the person wishing at the end.

Organic marmalades from the heart of Denmark (2006-2013)

Øhavet Syltetøj (Strynø – Denmark)

( summer seaons from 2006-2012)

I discovered the incredible island of Strynø in denmark when I was 26 years old.

I came from Marseille so as to work in an organic production of delicious marmalade in Denmark: Strawberries with rhubarb, Rapsberries with organic balsam vinegar, Gus berries with cardamom or organic cognac, blackberries with a twist of vanilla….So much flavors which gives me water in the mouth each time I´m thinking about it !

When I started to work in the farm of John Sørensen ( Øhavet Syltetøj), the way he was producing the marmalade brought me directly back in my childhood when my great grand mother was producing homemade marmalade with the berries of the garden !

I worked there seven summer seasons, picking the best berries so as to create the best marmalade made in Denmark, planting berries bushes, coming back the next year just for the pleasure to see these bushes growing, participating to the marmalade production, enjoying the cauldron bubbling of fresh flavors, like Asterix waiting for the magic potion!

An experience which has changed my life, my way to be conscientious about the Mother Nature!

I have a lot of respect for the farmers of this world, where ever they are ! Who used the secret of their ancestors to continue  and make through centuries, the way to respond to the gift offered by this nature, and give back to us all the beauty and diversity of this blue planet!

These people who are patient, who plants, who creates like an artist, a palette of flavors, which plays with all our senses. To these people, who invests their time to feed the planet and believe on an utopia based on Mother Nature!

These guys should have a golden medallion! For the transmission from generation to generation, of technics and knowledge. for the love they have for the land, the earth, the life!

It´s what I have discovered in this farm! and in the person of John Sørensen, as a captain on a boat, giving me as a wave, as a conductor, the direction to take….
